Silo City Round Two

Silo City Round Two

Last Thursday I traveled north to Buffalo, New York for the second edition of the Visual Archaeology Workshop. Accompanying me on this trip was my friend and confidant, Andy Hoff. It was Andy’s first time at Silo City and my second. We were looking forward to a great workshop and I confident that I can speak for both of us when I say that we were not disappointed. The workshop was fantastic. The weather was good, our hosts, Rick Smith and Jim Watkins were very cordial, and our workshop instructors Mark Maio and Julio Alvarez once again, outdid themselves. Thanks again guys! It was really great!

Not counting Mark and Julio there were six photographers. Three of us had returned for a second round and three new photographers made their first trip. Thursday night we did a meet and greet at the hotel and Friday morning we traveled over to Silo City where “Swannie” Jim Watkins took us on a short tour of the facility before turning us loose for the two and a half day photography extravaganza. I am not sure what Andy did but not counting my iPhone, I managed to take 1384 photos. Many of these are “HDR sets” so I have a ton of post processing to get through.

Both Friday and Saturday we had lunch over in the First Ward at a Gene McCarthy’s, a wonderful old Irish style pub. The Potato Bacon Chowder and the Beef on Weck are both very good plus they have an assortment of Craft Beer on Tap.

The workshop concluded at noon on Sunday. After everyone said their goodbyes, we packed up and began the long drive home. All in all it was another very successful Silo City adventure!

I will be posting photos from this trip just as soon as I can get them processed….stay tuned!
