Back in October of 2010 I came across an article in the Penn State University Greater Allegheny Nittany Lines publication regarding a literary and art review called ABSENCE.
ABSENCE, I learned, is a published annually. The goal is to provide a shared venue for creative endeavors. Upon further investigation I came across the name of the Senior Faculty Advisor and Publisher for the magazine, a very wonderful man by the name of Dr. Clifford Manlove, PhD. Dr. Manlove is an Associate Professor of English at the PSUGA campus.
In response to my inquiry regarding the submission process, Dr. Manlove told me that they accept submissions from current students, faculty and alumni and he extended to me an invitation to submit some of my works for the upcoming 2011 issue.
In early February of this year I submitted eight of my photographs to the ABSENCE student editorial staff for their consideration in the upcoming 2011 volume 13 edition due out in April.
Acceptance
At the end of March I was informed by Miss Jessi Hank, Managing Editor and Dr. Manlove that six of my photographs were accepted, and will be published in ABSENCE 2011 – Volume 13. Wow! I was hoping for one photo and they accepted six. I was truly delighted..!! In addition I was invited to speak at the “Celebration of the Arts: A Reading and Reception for Volume 13” where the new issue would be unveiled.
The celebration took place at the end of April. The venue was the Ostermayer Room of the Student Community Center. This is on the PSU Greater Allegheny Campus in Mckeesport, PA. There were hors d’oeuvres, drinks (non alcoholic), singing, dancing, acting, poetry reading and photographs. It was a very nice opening. I got to speak for about 10 minutes about my photos and I got to meet Dr. Manlove, some of the student editorial staff and some of the other contributing artists. Based upon the comments, my work was well received.
If all goes well I will be submitting another round of photos for the 2012 ABSENCE edition. My thankx to Dr. Manlove, and especially the student editorial staff for accepting and publishing my photos.
