Street Art on 3rd Street

Harrisburg Street Art

Today, over my lunchtime walk, I came across this young lady on 3rd Street in Harrisburg. Sitting quietly on the hot sidewalk she was creating some very nice street art. In full sun, and +90° heat, under a blue umbrella, she was painting on the side of a large planter. Boy I wish I was that young again. I stopped for a moment and asked her if I could take her picture. With a little chuckle she said “sure, go ahead”. I took these two images. I told her that I’d put them on my website, gave her a business card and quickly continued on my way.

About three blocks away I realized that I never even asked her name. In my frantic hurry up lifestyle, everything has it’s place and allotted number of minutes. When a situation comes up unexpectedly I often times do not even pause long enough to consider an alternative course of action. I have 60 minutes to walk at noon, I saw this young artist, realized the image potential, took two photographs, handed her a business card, bing badda boom I’m on my way and back at the office cave under the wire. Maybe a 30 second encounter, maybe even 30 words spoken. Sometimes I’m such a jackass! I hope this young artist looks up my website and drops me an email so I can at least learn her name and send her the photographs.

This is my second encounter with artists creating street art in Harrisburg and it’s pretty cool. A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to meet the artist who painted the mural on the concrete wall at the Old Waterworks Building. More about that street art can be found here: Top Secret Waterfront Mural
