It’s been almost two months since my last blog. I have been very busy with stuff … closing down the cottage for the winter, remodeling rooms in my house, trying to keep up with the camera club and getting post production work done on a large backlog of images. As I’ve said before, I really do not have enough time. I need like 48 hours in a day. Join the crowd right…
Back in October I drove up to Buffalo, NY and participated in a two and a half day photography workshop at Silo City. Silo City is a 6 acre site of privately controlled abandoned grain elevators along the Buffalo River. The workshop was lead and conducted by Mark Maio and Julio Alvarez, M.D. Mark is the founder of the Atlanta Photography Workshop in Georgia. Julio is physician who has lived and worked in Buffalo for the past 32 years. These are two really great guys who share a strong passion for the history of Buffalo, the people and industry surrounding the grain elevators as well as photography. For more about Mark, Julio, and Silo City please visit the workshop website at Visual Archaeology Workshop. A big thankx goes out to Mark and Julio for the awesome workshop and the unparalleled access to this amazing facility!
In addition to the workshop leaders, there were 7 participants, my self and 6 other photographers from around the country. It was a nice size group but this facility is so large that even with twice that number, if you wanted to, you could pretty much photograph by yourself without stumbling into anyone else’s frame.
For me, this workshop is more about gaining access to the grain elevators than about learning from the instructors. I pretty much photographed by myself over the two and a half day time-frame. As a group, each day, we enjoyed a catered lunch on-site and then in the evening after the days shoot we met up in the hotel to discuss our experience. This workshop was wonderful. I will definitely be going back in the spring of 2013 for the next edition. I highly recommend it! I have many more details that I won’t bore you with at this time but, if anyone out there is interested in attending in the spring drop me a email.
Now to the 10 images ….. Last night I participated to a post workshop webinar hosted by Mark Maio. We spent a couple of hours online in a GoToMeeting webinar sharing, critiquing and talking about each other’s images. This was a really great idea! It was great to see the images from the other photographers. It was really a talented group of people I was fortunate enough to meet and photograph with. Here are the images that I presented:
Please send all your comments, both good and bad my way.
I want to thank my friend, Angela Szemenyei Grooms for telling me that since I use twitter she hadn’t seen any of my photos recently and she gave me a 🙁 sad face. Well it’s not because of twitter, I have just found myself to busy. It’s really flattering to receive that kind of recognition. Thankx Angela for noticing!
