On Sunday, September 30, 2012, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM the members of the Harrisburg Camera Club will be exhibiting their photographs on selected bridge piers underneath Pennsylvania Route 581 in Lower Allen Township. The exhibition site is located  under the PA Route 581 expressway overpass on the 1800 block of Hummel Avenue in Lower Allen Township across from Flinchy’s Restaurant. Here’s the Google map and a couple of photos that show the nature of the exhibit site. The exhibition is dubbed the name, The 581 Project.

Back in 2001 American born photographer, Zoe Strauss conducted a day long exhibition of her prints, hung on columns under I-95 in South Philadelphia. This exhibition became a great success. After it’s inception Zoe’s event was held annually for the next ten years. The Harrisburg Camera Club’s 581 Project is patterned after the Zoe Strauss exhibition in context and spirit. More about Zoe Strauss here: Zoe Strauss: Ten Years .

This is a rain or shine event. I hope everyone can come out and support us in this endeavor.

Now I know that most of my peeps are located to far away to make it to this event so I am sharing my photos here in this blog. We are allowed 4 photos. I am using black and white imges because I think it fits with the lack of color under the bridge. It’s all concrete, stones and dirt. I hope you enjoy. I would love to hear all your comments.
